Tempos for excerpts - A number of the etudes and excerpts do not have tempo markings. In the interest of fairness and accessibility, the audition committees have set those, and they are listed below. All tempos are in quarter note bpm.
Bassoon excerpt (Rimsky-Korsakov) - 90
Trumpet excerpt 1 (Dvorak) - 138
Trumpet excerpt 2 (Shostakovich) - 112
Horn excerpt 1 (Dvorak) - eighth note = 90
Horn excerpt 2 (Beethoven) - dotted half = 116
Timpani - Just a clarification on the timpani excerpt - students should prepare only the 1st excerpt, the Mozart. No need to worry about tuning during the audition for the second excerpt.
